MAGA + MIGA = MEGA is a strategic partnership between the USA and India for prosperity and development. MAGA is a political movement calling for strict limits on immigration and a return to policies and practices in place before globalization and especially before the era of globalization that began in the late 20th century. A joint vision of ‘MAGA’ and ‘MIGA’ becomes a MEGA partnership for ‘prosperity’, and it is this mega spirit that gives new scale and scope to relationship between two countries. India is working towards a Viksit Bharat, which in the American context translates into MIGA. And together, the India-USA has a MEGA partnership for prosperity. The target is to increase the bilateral trade to more than double by the year 2030. Washington and New Delhi are pushing to conclude a “mutually beneficial trade agreement.” Originally used by Ronald Reagan as a campaign slogan in his 1980 presidential campaign (Let’s Make America Great Again), it has since been described as a loaded phrase. Multiple scholars, journalists, and commentators have called the slogan racist, regarding it as dog-whistle politics and coded language. MAGA is an American political slogan most recently popularized by Donald Trump during his successful presidential campaigns in 2016 and in 2024. “MAGA” is also used to refer to Trump’s political base or to an individual or group of individuals from within that base. The slogan became a pop culture phenomenon, seeing widespread use. MIGA is a political slogan most recently popularized by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He referenced Mr. Trump’s “Make America Great Again” motto and then coined “Make India Great Again” (MIGA) to underscore the two nations’ common focus on heritage and development. “With a firm resolve to ensure a developed India by 2047 if I were to say this, borrowing an expression from America, our vision for a developed India is to ‘Make India Great Again,” Mr. Modi said. When America and India work together, that is when it’s MAGA plus MIGA becomes MEGA. Make India Great Again. That’s right! India has enormous potential. Promise to restore “fairness and reciprocity” to the economic relationship is a noble goal of two democratic nations having the wealthiest and largest democracies. India is determined to “Make India Great Again,” or “MIGA”—a play on the President’s “MAGA” or “Make America Great Again” catchphrase and movement. India is perceived as not opposed to wars. But this is not true. India has a side, and that side is of peace. The “MEGA Partnership” is a vision of strong collaboration between two of the world’s largest democracies—each with its unique strengths, cultures, and perspectives. It could potentially result in significant advancements in many areas and more. The possibilities that such a united front offer could achieve a lot on a global stage. Every American and Indian would like to see these two countries collaborate. A U.S.A.-India partnership as a “MEGA Partnership” could emphasize strong economic, technological, and strategic cooperation between the two nations. Given both countries’ growing influence on the global stage, this could cover areas like trade and market access through enhanced collaborations. It is not only a real diplomatic branding opportunity but beyond a symbolic slogan. Combining “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) and “Make India Great Again” (MIGA) into a “MEGA Partnership” is an interesting and creative concept. As a collaborative effort between the United States and India it can achieve mutual growth and global leadership. Such a partnership could address global challenges. Slogan for the MEGA Partnership is “Together, we build a brighter future—stronger, smarter, and more sustainable.” This partnership could redefine global collaboration, setting an example for other nations to follow.
